The Scottish region was picked based on its suitability for the seasonal weather and activities to do in the local area, with winter sports in the Cairngorms a standout pick.
Travel experts from holidaycottages.com compiled the list for each season, with the Highlands taking the winter win.
Glenshee, which takes its name from the Gaelic “Glen of the Fairies”, was noted as key to the decision. The largest ski resort in Scotland, located in the Cairngorms National Park, covers an area of more than 2000 acres extending across four mountains and three valleys and offers a choice of 36 runs comprising 25 miles of pistes.

The nearby Cairngorm Mountain also caters to all abilities, with over 18 miles of marked runs, 13 surface lifts, freestyle terrain and a beginner’s slope.
Its idyllic location in the heart of Cairngorms National Park makes it one of Scotland’s favourite mountain destinations.
Spring saw Gloucestershire take the gong, noting its very large concentration of wild daffodils and picturesque villages.
Porthcawl in Wales was named best for the summer, with its surfing beaches a particular mention.
Dartmoor National Park – one of the most secluded areas in the UK – took the prize for autumn.
