Cooper Rush is back in Dallas. The Cowboys signed the backup quarterback to a two-year deal on Friday morning.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the details on Twitter.
“Dak’s backup is back: The #Cowboys are signing QB Cooper Rush,” Rapoport tweeted. “It’s a 2-year del for $6M max. 1st year & signing bonus fully guaranteed. The passer who ripped off four straight wins in 2022 returns.”

Rush went 4-1 in the 2022 season in relief of star quarterback Dak Prescott. Many credited Rush in the moment, while he was under center, for helping to keep the Cowboys afloat. The record he posted certainly influenced the team in a positive way as the Cowboys went on to make the NFL Playoffs.
In nine career games, Rush has made six starts and gone 5-1. He’s thrown for 1,475 yards, completed 59 percent of his passes, and thrown eight touchdowns with four interceptions.
Prior to joining the Cowboys in 2017, Rush starred in the MAC with the Central Michigan Chippewas.
Rush will provide familiarity and reliability in the backup role behind Dak. He hs played for the cowboys in five of the last six seasons. The only season he missed was the COVID-affected season in 2020.
The NFL world buzzed all morning and afternoon about the quarterback news for the Cowboys. Plenty had a lot to say.
