KOHALA COAST, Hawaii – Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team closed with a 275 on Saturday during the third round of play at the Amer Ari Invitational to finish in a tie for eighth place at Mauna Lani’s North Course.
The Cowboys’ 13-under closing round put them at 45-under 819 and tied with UCLA and Pepperdine at the par-72, 6,913-yard layout. North Carolina posted a five-shot victory, finishing at 68-under 796.
Arizona State’s Wenyi Ding fired a closing 62 to finish at 27-under 189 and nine shots clear of the field in the individual race.
Jonas Baumgartner was OSU’s top finisher, climbing into the top 20 with a second consecutive 67. The senior tied for 19th place at 13-under 203.
Freshman Preston Stout carded his second 71 in a row to finish tied for 28th place at 12-under 204.
Fifth year Rayhan Thomas tied for 36th place at 206 after carding his low round of the event, a 4-under 68.
Freshman Gaven Lane posed a 69 on Saturday to finish at 10-under 206 and tied for 36th as well.
Sophomore John Wild posted his second 68 of the event to lead OSU’s trio of individuals, tying for 45th place at 207.
Fifth year Hazen Newman competed individually and closed with a 73 to tie for 105th at 219.
Senior Bo Jin was also among OSU’s trio of individuals, posting a 75 to finish at 223 and tied for 109th.
Freshman Johnnie Clark rounded out the starting five, finishing 120th at 229 after signing for a 72.
Fifth year Dillon Stewart was slated to start individually, but withdrew due to injury prior to the start of the event.
OSU will be back in action on Feb. 19 at the Watersound Invitational in Panama City Beach, Fla.
