TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — We are in the middle of February, but it felt like the middle of summer down at Canyon Springs Golf Course Monday, where they opened for their first day of the season.
Canyon Springs opened their front nine Monday morning and tee times began at 10:00 a.m.
The course is currently walking only, as the ground is too wet to have carts out there.
The course’s unique location in the canyon gives them the ability to open much sooner than a lot of the other courses in the state.
However, there are a few downsides to the location that the course pro explained.
“We definitely get it a little bit better than Eastern Idaho. The canyon is a blessing and a curse. Our back nine doesn’t see a lot of sunshine, so it takes it a little bit longer. But for the most part we had a good winter, it was long enough, so we’re ready to get fired up for sure,” said Zach Abels.
The amount of people golfing on Monday was small, however that is to be expected on the first day of the week.
But one high school golfer was out on the course, looking to get a head start on improving his game.
“Just heard that they were open, and I got school ball here soon, so I figured I would come down and practice a little bit and play while it’s warm,” said Christian Jensen, a golfer for Kimberly High School. “It’s in good condition and everyone is super cool and I’ve always gone here we have a membership, and we just know everybody and it’s a good environment.”
Canyon Springs Golf Course’s front nine will be open the rest of the week and beyond and they will announce when the course fully opens for the year in the near future.
